Silts pod

Orbiter Columbia OV-102 featured a distinctive pod on top of its vertical tail stabilizer, housing the Shuttle Infrared Leeside Temperature Sensing (SILTS) experiment. Installed after mission STS-9, this infrared camera system observed thermal heating on the fuselage and left wing during reentry, the camera system was removed after the 1991 mission STS-61C. #silts #spaceshuttle #nasa #boneyardsafari #aviationsafari
