OMS pod on Atlantis
Check out the left Orbital Maneuvering System, or OMS, pod on Orbiter Atlantis OV-104. The OMS provided the shuttle with thrust for orbit insertion, rendezvous and deorbit, and could provide up to 1,000 pounds of propellant to the aft reaction control system. #spaceshuttle #nasa #boneyardsafari #aviationsafari
Why did Challenger have more tiles?
Space Shuttles had a different number of thermal tiles between the Orbiters, but why? #spaceshuttle #nasa #boneyardsafari #aviationsafari

Space shuttle seats
Here is a look at two launch and entry seats installed on the Orbiter Endeavour's OV-105 aft flight deck. Once in orbit these were stowed. #spaceshuttle #nasa #boneyardsafari #aviationsafari

Ejection seats on Enterprise
Did you know Orbiter Enterprise OV-101 had ejection seats? Here is Astronaut Joe Engle in the cockpit at the Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC) prior to takeoff of the 747SCA in 1977. You can see the outline of the hatch in the top of the photo. #ejectionseat #nasa #spaceshuttle #boneyardsafari #aviationsafari

Disconnecting from the 747SCA
Here is a closer look at the connection between the Orbiter and the 747SCA, it was located just forward of the main landing gear. Workers were removing the struts that attached Atlantis to the SCA after STS-125 when it was ferried from Edwards back to the Cape. #spaceshuttle #nasa #747sca #boneyardsafari #aviationsafari
